Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Incident as Police Persist in Hunt for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who died in the recent violent attack in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter continued following the release by Rhode Island officials of the sole person questioned in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies publicly, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Remembering her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were injured in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male detained in a raid at a hotel about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause fresh anxiety for our public”.

The gunman opened fire inside a room in the building on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a authority told the Associated Press.

Officers that raided the hotel recovered a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the suspect was arrested, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

Regarding the nine injured, one student was released from the hospital, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a private academy in North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Additional Memorials

Cook was remembered at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only during her upbringing... but at Brown University she was a radiant presence in that particular place as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and peers,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, friends, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”
