The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure About Sizing Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Reaction
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with similar services.
The platform has recommended to review their products and manually change the size if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Updates
Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, located in Scotland, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million users, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
