The star has handed over the entirety of his £25,000 honor cash to the MVT, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

Fender was given the cheque on 16 October as his new release People Watching was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has opted to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages had in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his live tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped locations that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from floods, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received funding support in modernizing facilities and gear that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The notion that money from performances in major spaces backs the smaller venues, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has commented.
