Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
