Combatants laugh as they ride on the rear of a pick-up truck, speeding alongside a series of nine dead bodies and moving in the direction of the sinking African evening sky.

These individuals are rejoicing over a massacre that relief organizations believe killed in excess of thousands of civilians in the African city of the Darfur city during October.

A City Cut Off from the Outside

After maintaining the city under siege for almost two years, from August the RSF advanced to strengthen its dominance and prevent access for the leftover inhabitants.

Space-based imagery reveal that troops started to build a massive berm - a built-up sand barrier - encircling the edges of the city, blocking access routes and halting aid.
